Barthelemy Mwanza

My name is Barthelemy Mwanza Ngane originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo but currently living in the United States of America. I was granted a scholarship by the Worldwide Women’s Forum to study Journalism and Media studies with ABMA in 2019 and I completed my advanced diploma. This highest level of training equipped me with the right media, advocacy, and public speaking skills which helped me to make my representation at various UN-led conferences in Geneva such as the High Commissioner's Dialogue, and NGO consultations just to mention a few. This scholarship opened doors to other scholarships on Refugee Law for Journalists and Media with the International Institute of Humanitarian Law- Sanremo and the Journalist Mentorship Programme with UNHCR and, to job opportunities to work as a Protection Monitor with UNHCR in Harare-Zimababwe, a role in which I was assisting to identify various protection risks faced by urban refugees, amplifying refugee voices, and referring them to UNHCR and partners for further assistance. The Advanced Diploma is currently serving me as my academic document in the United States when I am called for a job interview and it is accepted. I now have an exemplary work ethic and I am a communicator and motivator with the ability to influence and negotiate with internal and external stakeholders.

I am looking forward to advancing from Media studies to the Degree level and to being a media practitioner involved in publishing news, and filming. I am looking forward to helping refugees with the recording and publishing of their stories as a journalist, connecting talented refugee youths who are in remote areas with the real world, and giving them exposure. Thanks to this training, I co-wrote an article on the UNHCR website on 'Refugees take climate action to restore and revive their community in Zimbabwe. https://www.unhcr.org/africa/news/stories/refugees-take-climate-action-restore-and-revive-their-community-zimbabwe#:~:text=Bernard%20Mutangana%2C%2039%2C%20a%20Rwandese,revitalizing%20the%20environment%20in%20the and I was featured on different online platforms: https://www.ikea.com/ca/en/this-is-ikea/community-engagement/changing-the-narrative-on-refugees/from-the-drc-to-zimbabwe-meet-barthelemy-pube9820ff0
